Walking home from school, 5-year-old Kat came across a wooden fence post with kittens climbing all over it. That moment provided the direction her life would take from that point on.

Still wearing their fluffy kitten coats, the little faces and tiny, inquisitive mews spoke to Kat’s heart. It was then that she knew what she wanted to do with her life: she was going to be the next ‘Mother Nature’. After realizing that was a pretty tough job to land (not to mention that the role was already filled), Kat turned her focus to helping animals. 

She graduated from Veterinary Tech school in 1994 as a Registered Vet Tech. This was the beginning of what she fondly refers to as her “working adventure” in-clinic.

After 12 years as a Head Technician in a busy emergency clinic, Kat continued her adventure and joined McCarthy in 2019. Moving out of the clinic was a tough decision for her but, as she puts it, “I love being able to help so many clinics in so many ways. Each day I can have a positive effect on countless people and animals.”

Kat is very proud of her work as a successful rep and has great insight into all the products and equipment Canadian vet clinics need. 

Outside of work, Kat loves to travel with her husband and two amazing kids. She’s been to 36 countries and counting. She also spends her vacation time volunteering, lending her skills and expertise to wildlife sanctuaries and developing countries’ spay and neuter efforts.

Pets? She has a few, including a dwarf rabbit named Ninja, a Chihuahua cross named Rascal, and 4 cats – Piglette, Buddy, Racer and Tinkerbell. 

After 28 years in the industry, Kat still works part-time in an emergency clinic because she knows “Mother Nature’s work is never done.”
